“This innovative app enables inhabitants to access the needed information easily on one hand, but also provides a sophisticated tool for urban planning. It is generic so it can be implemented world wide”.
‘The system will also significantly contribute to further strengthening of the cooperation among the countries, as well as the role of ISRBC (International Sava River Basin Commission) as the body coordinating the water cooperation in the Sava river basin’.
Sava River Forecasting across borders
Royal HaskoningDHV along with its partners have developed an early warning system for the Sava river basin (97,700 km2) which is shared by five countries: Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia. Each country has its own models, monitoring systems, forecasting systems, water authorities and interests.
Along with Deltares, Eptisa, the Hydro-Engineering Institute of Sarajevo and Mihailo Andjelic, we have joined forces to establish an effective Flood Forecasting and Warning System that spreads across these five countries. The exceptional collaboration between all parties involved makes it possible to integrate multiple numerical hydrological and hydraulic models within the Sava river basin that forecast the expected water levels and flood extents. Bringing change to the future to ensure the safety of many communities in the entire area.
